Record a meeting
Press Record on the countdown pill when a meeting starts, click “Record Meeting” in the menu bar, or switch on “Auto-record when opening a meeting” so Open Meeting starts the recorder too. No bot joins: SwitchDesk records your mic and the call’s audio as two tracks on your Mac. SwitchDesk doesn’t announce itself in the call, so tell people you’re recording.
From the countdown pill
Switch on “Countdown before meetings”
It’s in
Settings then Calendar. You’ll be asked for Calendar access the first time. A countdown starts for meetings you’ve accepted, not for calendars you follow.Countdown before meetings
A countdown appears next to the timer ahead of a meeting and runs down to its start time. Click it to dismiss.
In Settings → Calendar. It’s off until you switch it on. Watch the pill count down
Before the meeting, a pill at the bottom of your screen counts down to its start, like “Lumora kickoff · 4:32”. Clicking the pill during the countdown dismisses that meeting.
Open the call, then press Record
Hover the pill and click “Open Meeting” to open the call link (in the Chrome profile signed into that calendar’s account; set it under “Meeting links”). The pill then shows Record. When the countdown hits zero, the pill shows the meeting name with Record and Open Meeting, and it dismisses itself 5 minutes after the start.
The meeting countdown pill showing a red Record button, a close button and 4:32 left. The pill after Open Meeting: Record, ✕ and the time left.
From the menu bar
For a call that isn’t on your calendar, click the SwitchDesk icon in the menu bar and choose “Record Meeting”. A recording started this way is called “New Meeting” at first. You can also hold 🌐 and say record new meeting.
Record automatically
Switch on “Auto-record when opening a meeting” in Settings then Meetings. It’s off by default.
Auto-record when opening a meeting
Clicking Open Meeting also starts the recorder. Stop any time from the Recording pill.
During and after the call
- Stop ends the recording and saves it. Cancel throws it away.
- A notepad opens while you record (“Show a notepad while recording”, on by default). Anything you type there is added to that meeting’s notes.
- The call is transcribed live. When it ends, the notes are written and, with “Suggest to-dos after a meeting” on, a popup offers the call’s action items: add them one by one or click “Add all”.
- Each recording is saved in “My Meetings” in the menu bar. Search and Ask your meetings →
