Create a Video

Drag out exactly the part of the screen you want in the video. You can move and resize it before recording starts.

Your camera bubble records too — drag it anywhere inside the area.

That window is on another desktop, so your camera won't be in this video. Switch to its desktop first to include it.

Recording modes

Screen, Window or Area. Camera in all three.

01

Screen

Pick a display, see it live, double-click to start.

Best for Walkthroughs that move across apps.

02

Window

Every window on every desktop, as thumbnails.

Best for Showing one app without your inbox.

03

Area

Record one part of the screen and leave the rest out.

Best for Short clips and bug repros.

Microphone, Camera, System Audio

Your mic records what you say. Switch on “This Mac's audio” to include a demo’s sound, and Camera to add your face in a round bubble. Drag it anywhere before you start.

In Window mode, the camera bubble is recorded when the window is on the current desktop and on one display.

Drag the bubble anywhere; switch Camera off to hide it.

Share page

A share page anyone with the link can open, no account needed.

  • Your video, with the transcript under it. Press a timestamp and the player jumps there.
  • “Copy transcript” puts every word on the viewer’s clipboard.
  • Pasted into a chat, the link unfurls with the title, the length and a still frame.
  • Unlisted, not private: search engines don’t index it, and “Stop Sharing…” in My Videos turns the link off.

Transcript

This is a walkthrough of the Lumora pilot plan.

Slide two is the scope: twelve seats for your support team, starting next month.

Slide three is the timeline. We set up the workspace first, then check in with you two weeks in.

If the pilot goes well, slide four is the rollout to all forty agents.

Pricing for the pilot is in the revised proposal, which you'll have by Thursday.

Any questions, reply to this message and I'll walk you through it live.

Transcript

The transcript is still being made. Refresh in a minute.

A coded copy of a share page. Press a timestamp to jump.

Settings → Videos

Show the transcript on share pages

The default for new videos. Change it per video in My Videos.

Name videos from what you said

Replaces “Recording …” with a short title made from the transcript. A title you typed is never changed.

Switch either one and the page changes with it.

Area

Drag any rectangle, or snap to 1:1 or 16:9.

Record the one panel that matters, not your whole screen. Drag a box, or pick a shape and SwitchDesk places it. Return records; Esc cancels.

My Videos

Every video, on your Mac first.

Each recording is an MP4 on this Mac. Sharing uploads a copy for the link; “Stop Sharing…” deletes that copy and the link stops working; your MP4 stays.

A coded copy of the My Videos window. Numbers added for this page.

  1. 1“Shared · 7 views · transcript ready” How many times the link was opened. A count, not a list of names.
  2. 2“Uploading 64%” Q4 hiring plan quick tour: still uploading. Its link already works, so you can send it now.
  3. 3“Share” Kiln schedule for Saturday isn’t shared, so it has no status line. It stays on this Mac until you press Share.

Click a title to rename it. Each row’s ··· menu has “Copy Transcript”, “Show Transcript on Share Page”, “Stop Sharing…” and “Delete…”.

Settings → Videos

Copy a share link when I stop recording

The link is on your clipboard the moment you press Stop; the video uploads behind it. Off: share from My Videos when you want to.

Lands in your to-do list

Send the link, then say the follow-up onto your list.

The share card reads “Ready to share · transcript ready”, “Record Lumora pilot walkthrough” is checked off, then Sam holds the Globe key and says “add a todo follow up with Maya about the pilot walkthrough”; the dictation pill shows “Todo Added” and “Follow up with Maya about the pilot walkthrough” lands under Fernhill.

Share card for “Lumora pilot walkthrough”: Ready to share · transcript ready.

You say“add a todo follow up with Maya about the pilot walkthrough”

SwitchDesk’s dictation pill: “Todo Added”, with buttons to add it to Today’s Todo or This Week’s Todo.

Sam’s to-do list: Today’s Todo with “Record Lumora pilot walkthrough” checked off, and under Fernhill, “Follow up with Maya about the pilot walkthrough”.

Animation added for this page.

The to-dos land in one list; the walkthrough becomes a link.

More in Help →
Do viewers need an account?
No. They open the link in any browser and get the player, the transcript and “Copy transcript”.
Who can watch my link?
Anyone with the link, including anyone it’s forwarded to. It’s unlisted, not private: search engines don’t index it, and “Stop Sharing…” in My Videos turns it off.
Where are videos stored?
On your Mac first. Every recording is saved as an MP4 on this Mac; sharing uploads a copy so the link can play it. You’ll find them all in My Videos.
Does every recording upload?
Yes, by default: “Copy a share link when I stop recording” is on. Switch it off in Settings → Videos and each video stays on this Mac until you press Share.
How many videos can I share?
As many as you like. Both plans include unlimited videos and share links.
What happens to my links if I cancel?
They stay live for 90 days, then show as paused. Your videos stay on your Mac.
Can I trim or edit a video?
Not today. Record again, or keep the take and add a note when you send the link.
Can viewers comment or react?
Not today. Replies come back wherever you sent the link: the email, chat or ticket.
What’s the badge on the share page?
A “Recorded with SwitchDesk” line on the share page. There’s no setting to remove it today.
Can it record SwitchDesk’s own windows?
No. Your to-do list, the pill and every other SwitchDesk window stay out of the video; only the camera bubble is recorded.
Can I record on Windows or iPhone?
No. Create Video is Mac only. Viewers can watch in a browser on a phone or computer.
Is SwitchDesk a Loom alternative?
For recording on a Mac, yes. Both copy the link when you stop. Pick Loom for Windows, Chrome and phone recording, an editor and comments. See the full comparison →
