The short version

This summary isn’t part of the terms. The numbered sections below are.

See what SwitchDesk can’t be used for, in section 7 →
  1. What you make stays yours. We use your recordings, notes, to-dos and videos only to run the features you use.

  2. Tell people you’re recording. SwitchDesk doesn’t announce itself on calls, and many places require everyone’s consent.

  3. Share links are unlisted, not private. Anyone with the link can watch until you stop sharing.

  4. Check before you rely on it. Transcripts miss words, and AI-written notes, titles and to-dos can be wrong.

  5. Plans renew until you cancel. The first 14 days are a free trial of Pro, and starting it needs a payment method. When the trial ends, it becomes a paid plan and you’re charged, unless you cancel before then.

  6. SwitchDesk comes as is. Our liability is limited as far as the law allows.

1. These terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Abstrakt, LLC (“SwitchDesk”, “we”, “us”). They cover the SwitchDesk app for Mac, our website at switchdesk.org and the video share pages at switchdesk.org/v/…, together called “SwitchDesk”.

By downloading or using SwitchDesk, you agree to these terms. If you use SwitchDesk for an organization, you confirm that you can accept them on its behalf.

How we handle personal information is explained in the Privacy Policy.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use SwitchDesk.
  • Use an email address only you can read. You sign in with a code or a link sent to it, so anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. Keep it secure, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
  • You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
  • The name you show teammates can’t impersonate anyone, infringe anyone’s rights or be offensive.

Emails from us

We email you sign-in codes and links, receipts and reminders about your plan, and notices about your account or these terms. If we send newsletters or product news, every one has an unsubscribe link.

3. Using SwitchDesk

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use SwitchDesk on devices you own or control, for your own use or your organization’s internal use, as long as you follow these terms.

SwitchDesk needs macOS 14.6 or later, and an internet connection for transcription, AI features and sync. It changes as we work on it: we may add, change or remove features.

Trying it during setup

While you set SwitchDesk up on a Mac, you can try dictation before you have an account or a plan. These tries are limited in number and length, and we may change or end them at any time.

You may not

  • copy, modify, rent or resell the app;
  • reverse-engineer it, except where the law allows;
  • get around usage limits, rate limits or security measures;
  • access SwitchDesk by automated means, other than through the developer features we provide (section 11).

4. Plans, trial and billing

SwitchDesk has two plans, Essential and Pro, billed monthly or annually. Current prices and what each plan includes are on the pricing page, and shown before you buy. Some plans have monthly limits, such as hours of meeting notes on Essential; they’re listed with each plan.

Where you can buy

  • On the web, for the Mac. You buy through our checkout in your browser. Payments are handled by Stripe, through our billing provider RevenueCat, and you can pay by card or with Apple Pay. Web checkout is available to customers in the United States only for now.
  • In the iPhone app. You buy through Apple’s App Store, and Apple charges you. Apple’s terms apply to that purchase too (section 13).

Prices don’t include taxes unless they say so. Any sales tax that applies is shown before you pay.

Free trial

Your first 14 days are a free trial of Pro. Starting the trial needs a payment method. At the end of the trial, it converts to the paid plan you chose and your payment method is charged for the first billing period, unless you cancel before the trial ends. After that, your plan renews as described below. During the trial, meeting notes are limited to 10 hours. One free trial per person.

Renewal

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the price in effect then, and your payment method is charged for each new period until you or we cancel it.

Payments and cancelling

Cancel anytime in Settings → Account → Manage plan; your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, with no partial refunds.

Cancelling stops the next charge; it doesn’t delete your account or your list. If you bought in the iPhone app, cancel in your iPhone’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, where Apple manages it. If a payment fails, we may pause paid features until it goes through.

Refunds

Fees you’ve paid aren’t refundable, except where the law requires a refund. Refunds for purchases made in the App Store are handled by Apple, under Apple’s policies.

Price changes

We may change our prices. A change takes effect at the start of your next billing period, and we’ll tell you before it does, so you can cancel first. If you keep your plan after the change takes effect, you agree to the new price.

5. Your content

What you make with SwitchDesk is yours: your recordings, transcripts, notes, to-dos and videos (“your content”).

You give us permission to store, process, copy, transmit and display your content only as needed to run SwitchDesk for you: for example, to sync your list, transcribe your audio, write your notes, and show a video on the share page you created. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You confirm that you own your content or have the rights to use it this way, and that it doesn’t break anyone else’s rights.

What other people share with you, such as a teammate’s to-dos or a video link, isn’t yours to republish or use commercially without their permission.

6. Recording other people

SwitchDesk doesn’t announce itself in a call. If you record a call, tell the people on it. Many places require everyone’s consent before a call is recorded, and you’re responsible for following the laws that apply to you and to them.

The same goes for screen recordings that show other people, their messages or their data.

Letting an AI app read your calls, and especially their full transcripts, shares what other people said with that app. Depending on where you and they are, you may need their consent first. You’re responsible for that, and for marking calls you can’t share “Never share”.

7. Acceptable use

Don’t use SwitchDesk to:

  • record, store or share content you don’t have the right to, or that’s illegal;
  • harass, threaten or harm anyone, or monitor people without the consent the law requires;
  • infringe anyone’s intellectual property or privacy;
  • spread malware, or try to break into or disrupt SwitchDesk, its providers or other people’s accounts;
  • overload the service, get around its limits, or resell access to it.

9. Teams

  • When you share a category with your team, everyone on the team sees its to-dos, including ones you move to “Today’s Todo”. Categories you don’t share stay private.
  • Teammates can assign to-dos to each other and take ones from a teammate’s backlog with “Take & Assign to Me”.
  • If you leave a team, or are removed from it, your categories stop being shared with it.
  • Each person needs their own SwitchDesk account today.
  • You’re responsible for what you share with your team.

10. AI features and transcripts

Notes, summaries, titles, suggested to-dos, Ask answers, chat replies and transcripts are produced automatically, and they can be wrong or incomplete. Transcripts miss words, and speaker names can be mislabeled. Check them before you rely on them, especially for anything legal, medical or financial.

These features rely on outside providers: Deepgram turns speech into text, and Anthropic’s models write notes, titles, suggested to-dos, polished dictation and chat replies. What each receives is listed in the Privacy Policy. Don’t use these features for anything those providers’ usage policies forbid.

11. Developer features

The developer settings let you create API keys, receive to-dos from other tools and send status updates back to them, and export copies of meetings, at webhook addresses you choose.

  • Don’t share your API keys or signing secrets. Anyone with one of your keys can add to-dos to your list.
  • You’re responsible for the addresses you send data to, and for what the tools there do with it.
  • We may limit requests, and switch off delivery to an address that keeps failing.

AI access (Settings → AI access) lets AI apps you connect read and change your SwitchDesk data with the permissions you choose. You’re responsible for what you allow, for keeping each connection’s key secret, and for what a connected app does with what it reads. Those apps aren’t run by us; their own terms apply. Changes an AI makes can be wrong: review them in Activity, where most can be undone for 7 days. We may limit, pause or revoke connections that are abused or put the service at risk.

12. Other services

SwitchDesk works alongside services we don’t run, such as your calendar, Google Meet and other call apps, and the tools you connect. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to them. We aren’t responsible for their content, availability or practices, or for any loss that comes from using them.

13. Apps from the App Store

If you got SwitchDesk from Apple’s App Store, this section applies too:

  • These terms are between you and Abstrakt, LLC, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
  • Your license is to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as Apple’s Usage Rules allow.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. Write to us instead (section 21).
  • If the app doesn’t meet a warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • We, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that it doesn’t meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer-protection or privacy claims, and claims that it infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
  • You confirm that you aren’t in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as “terrorist supporting”, and aren’t on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

14. Our property

SwitchDesk, including its software, design, website and logo, belongs to Abstrakt, LLC and its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. Don’t use our name or logo without our written permission.

15. Ending these terms

You can stop using SwitchDesk at any time. To delete your account, write to us from your account’s address (Privacy Policy, “Your rights”). We cancel a plan bought on the web before we delete the account; a plan bought in the App Store keeps billing until you cancel it with Apple.

We may suspend or close your account at any time, including if you break these terms, and without notice where the law allows. When your account closes, your right to use SwitchDesk ends. What’s saved on your Mac stays on your Mac.

Terms that by their nature should last, such as ownership, the disclaimer, the limits on liability and indemnification, still apply after your account closes.

16. Disclaimer

SwitchDesk is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that SwitchDesk will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that transcripts and AI output will be accurate.

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Abstrakt, LLC and its affiliates, directors, employees, suppliers and licensors aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, use or goodwill, arising from your use of SwitchDesk or your inability to use it.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims about SwitchDesk is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for SwitchDesk in the 12 months before the claim arose, or US$100.

Some places don’t allow these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

18. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Abstrakt, LLC, its licensees and licensors, and their employees, contractors, agents, officers and directors, against claims, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) that arise from your use of SwitchDesk, your breach of these terms, or content you record or share.

19. Governing law and general terms

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute about these terms or SwitchDesk will be decided in the state or federal courts in Fulton County, Georgia, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may still bring a claim in small-claims court where it qualifies.

You may not transfer these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them if SwitchDesk is sold or merged.

If we don’t enforce a term, we haven’t waived it. If a court finds a term invalid, the rest still apply. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about SwitchDesk.

20. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For a material change, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice, in the app or by email, before it takes effect. If you keep using SwitchDesk after that, you accept the new terms; if you don’t agree, stop using SwitchDesk. Past versions are listed in the version history below.
