Create a video and share the link

Updated · SwitchDesk build 228+
TL;DR

Click the SwitchDesk icon in the menu bar and choose “Create Video”. Pick Screen, Window or Area, choose your microphone, camera and this Mac’s audio, and press “Start Recording”. When you press Stop, the share link is already on your clipboard and the video uploads behind it. Share links are unlisted: anyone with the link can watch.

Pick what to record

  1. Open the picker

Menu bar → “Create Video”. The “Create a Video” panel opens.

  2. Choose Screen, Window or Area

    • Screen records a whole display, with a live preview of each one.
    • Window records one window. The list includes windows on every desktop.
    • Area: press “Select Area…”, then drag out exactly the part of the screen you want. Pick “Freeform”, “Square video” or “Widescreen video (16:9)”, move or resize the box, and press “Record This Area”.
  3. Start

Press “Start Recording”, or double-click a preview. A short countdown runs first; click it to cancel.

Try it
Create a Video

Drag out exactly the part of the screen you want in the video. You can move and resize it before recording starts.

Your camera bubble records too — drag it anywhere inside the area.

This Mac's audio

That window is on another desktop, so your camera won't be in this video. Switch to its desktop first to include it.

Tip: double-click a preview to start
The Create Video picker in Window mode.

Microphone, camera and audio

Three cards under the preview switch your inputs on and off:

  • Microphone: your narration. Pick which mic from its menu.
  • Camera: shows your camera in a bubble you can drag anywhere in the recording. In Area mode, the bubble records too: drag it anywhere inside the area.
  • System Audio: “This Mac's audio”, for sound from apps and videos you show.

Stop and share the link

Press Stop on the recording pill. A card appears with the video’s title, “Copy Link” and “Open in Browser”, while the upload finishes: “Preparing upload…”, then a progress bar, then “Ready to share · transcript ready”.

Share card for “Lumora pilot walkthrough”: Ready to share · transcript ready.
The share card once the upload is done.

With “Copy a share link when I stop recording” on (the default), the link is on your clipboard the moment you press Stop, so you can paste it straight away. The page it opens shows the video, and the transcript if you leave that on.

Slide three is the timeline. We set up the workspace first, then check in with you two weeks in.

If the pilot goes well, slide four is the rollout to all forty agents.

Pricing for the pilot is in the revised proposal, which you'll have by Thursday.

Any questions, reply to this message and I'll walk you through it live.

Transcripts, titles and stopping a link

Every recording is saved on your Mac and listed in “My Videos” (menu bar → “My Videos”). From there you can “Show Transcript”, “Copy Transcript”, switch “Show Transcript on Share Page” per video, or choose “Stop Sharing…” so the link stops working.

Create Video

Copy a share link when I stop recording

The link is on your clipboard the moment you press Stop; the video uploads behind it. Off: share from My Videos when you want to.

Show the transcript on share pages

The default for new videos. Change it per video in My Videos.

Name videos from what you said

Replaces “Recording …” with a short title made from the transcript. A title you typed is never changed.
